Defining a Yandere/Tsundere Empty Defining a Yandere/Tsundere

Let me have a short moment of your time to provide some understanding of the 2 major types of "dere" a character can have.

Lets start with Tsundere.
Tsundere is kind of difficult to describe since it's overall meaning has changed over the years. Originally, a Tsundere character would be someone who starts off cold and uncaring but as time goes on, she starts to develop a soft side. There's a development as the series progresses.
But as of current, Tsundere's meaning would be; a character who is cold and uncaring but is actually pretty soft. It's immediate.
There is quite a debate as to what the real meaning should be. Personally, I stick to the original description of Tsuns.
A good example of a Tsun is Taiga, from ToraDora.

Now, to Yandere.
By definition, a Yandere is someone who is devoted to the person they love, to the point of insanity and over-protection ("be mine forever"). Yanderes... are rare. Take note that a character doing an "insane" face does not immediately label that character as a Yandere. Characters like Rena (Higurashi) and Kotonoha (School Days) aren't considered as "Yandere".
A perfect example would be the well known Yuno Gasai from Mirai Nikki (Future Diary).

These two are the main "dere" types. There are others but they're more of a lesser type.

I will add more:

Kurumi Tokisaki from Date A Live is NOT a yandere.

Seijuurou Akashi from Kuroko no Basuke is NOT a yandere either.

I got tired already from those who called Tokisaki and Akashi a yandere.
